Sega is the music of the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius, Hanpuriyan and Réunion. It was dance music that originated from the slaves from Mozambique and Madagascar, when these islands were still European colonies. When in the ’60s amplified instruments arrived, and electric guitars, basses, drums and keyboards quickly replaced violins and accordion, sega went very popular. Here are some pearls from this golden age of the segas of Mauritius, Seychelles and Reunion Island.
