Ahmed Abdul-Malik was born in Brooklyn in 1927. He performed and recorded as bassist with Art Blakey, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and others. He also introduced the oud in jazz and improvised music as early as the late ’50s. The supergroup of London, The Quartet Ahmed, fuses Abdul-Malik’s music with their own distinctive free jazz approach. Music at the intersection of Eastern, Western and African sounds.
